Syracuse Road Party
September 6, 2002

The Syracuse Road Party is ON!!  Going to Kenan is a piece of cake.  But the real fun being a Carolina fan is being a road warrior.  We love carrying the Carolina banner on the road throughout the USA.  It's like shouting, "Watch out, here comes the Tar Heel Nation!"  We do our part supporting the Heels.

Mark and I leave Raleigh around 6:30 pm Thursday, the 5th.  We meet Robbie and his crew coming up from Lumberton on I-95.  Let the good times begin!  This is our first Road Party since the Peach Bowl.

Well actually this trip is a little different since we're doing a lot on night driving.  Approaching DC we get caught up in stop-n-roll traffic for about 30 minutes.  But we steadily press on.

Around 3:00 am Friday we finally pull into a parking lot for the night.  We were around Hagerstown, MD and right at I-81.  Tomorrow we would quickly be in Pennsylvania and on our way to Syracuse.

Today we proved it's truly a small world.  Somewhere in northern Pennsylvania, we run into this crazy guy while stopping to get gas and propane.  He told me himself that he escaped from the asylum and they had an APB out for him.  We found each other on the Internet last year due to our tailgating escapades.  Whereas I only travel for Carolina, this guy travels around 30,000 miles a year to all kinds of tailgating parties.  He wanted to know about my web cam technology from our tailgate parties.  I told him to come to a Carolina game and I would show him.  He's really a fun guy to be around.  And I think he just might show up at our tailgate party at the Wake Forest game this season.  So if you're a Carolina fan, you must travel to Winston-Salem to catch this act in person.  Joe Cahn, the Commissioner of Tailgating, has www.tailgating.com with all the info.

Way to go Robbie!  That sends the proper message.  Robbie's a UNC Tailgaiter.  And we do it again and again and...  Don't you want to join our fun?  Travel with us to the away games.

Upstate New York is beautiful country.  As we come over a hilltop, we get our first glimpse of the Carrier Dome.  We're calling it the Heels House this weekend.  Come on Heels, don't let us down!

At last it's official.  We've arrived at Syracuse.  Now, which exit are we supposed to take?

First order of business is to locate the the RV parking lot.  Coming out of where we will be tailgating tomorrow, we see this sign pointing the way to the Carrier Dome.

As we leave the Syracuse campus, Correy gets a good shot of the Carrier Dome.  Man, I'm ready to suit up myself.  But we have to wait until 8:00 pm tomorrow night to see the Heels beat Syracuse.
