Raleigh, NC __
Now we're talking! It looks more and more like football can become
a force at the University of North Carolina. From Dick Baddour to
John Bunting to assistant coaches and staff to players to fans, we're teaming
up.
Several of my
articles this year and in the recent past have addressed my notion of
what comprises a football team. At least in my mind, football can
be influenced more than any other sport by having participating
fans. The proverbial '12th Man' works. On game day, the team
is coaches, players, and fans.
Sometimes it's too
easy for Carolina fans to be critical of people and happenings that surround our
program. I think some of the finger pointing is harmful and could
hurt our common goals in the long run. OK, I've been guilty of
that too. It's human nature. It will continue by all in
varying degrees. I would only hope we remember that we are
all part of the team.
Yesterday Baddour
and Bunting published an open letter to Carolina fans who are avid
supporters of our football program. We come in all ages, sizes, shapes
and colors. Our common ground is that we bleed Carolina blue and
we go to the football games, home and away. We have been
recognized and appreciated. A hat tip from the Ram Man to all my
fellow Carolina fans. And a heart-felt thanks to Dick Baddour and John
Bunting for all that they do to promote Carolina Football.

An Open Letter To Carolina Football Fans
|
From Athletic Director Dick Baddour and Head Football Coach John Bunting
Nov. 25, 2002
Dear Carolina Football Fans:
Thank you for your continued outstanding support of our football program. Your enthusiastic turnout at the Duke game certainly lent a hand in that victory. You have supported our team through the years and this season was no exception. We are obviously disappointed with our win-loss record this year, but not in the effort our student-athletes gave and the backing they had from our great fans.
This season may be over on the field, but all of us at Carolina Athletics will continue to work diligently to develop the quality program UNC expects and deserves. Together, with our passion for the University and Carolina Football, we will build a successful program.
Our biggest disappointment this season is not winning in front of our home fans. We have another outstanding home schedule next fall and look forward to seeing you back at Kenan Stadium. We are committed to developing an outstanding program and want you to team with us in this effort!
Thank you and Go Heels!
Dick Baddour
