A thrilling first game of the ACC Tournament went into overtime, but Florida State survived foul trouble to gut-out a win over Clemson, 87-85.
Clemson's Terrell McIntyre had a three-point shot to win the game at the end of the overtime, but the 25-footer bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded.
Florida State looked to have the game put away in the second half. The Noles got seven quick points from Terrell Baker following the halftime break to lead 51-41 with 13:55 remaining in the game. FSU would increase the lead to 13 after Adrian Crawford buried a three-pointer from the top of the key. The lead would swell to 67-51 at the 6:30 mark
Clemson's Will Solomon led the Tiger comeback with five three-pointers in the second half, but the Noles still held a nine-point lead with 3:51 to go.
With Seminoles Ron Hale and Terrell Baker both on the bench after having fouled out, the Tigers utilized clutch free throw shooting and strong inside play to come roaring back.
Following two missed free throws by FSU's Delvon Arrington, the Tigers' Sarunas Jurkunas hit two free throws to tie the score at 71 with :50 on the clock.
FSU's Delvon Arrington and Clemson's McIntyre both missed shots in the final minute to force the overtime.
In the overtime, FSU utilized some little-used reserves, including a critical tip-dunk by Antwaun Dixon that pushed the Noles lead to 82-76.
McIntyre followed with a remarkable three-pointer -- in which he shot the ball from near his kneecaps -- but the senior missed the opportunity to make the play a four-pointer, and FSU held on for the win.
In all, six players fouled-out of the game -- Baker, Hale, Damous Anderson, and Oliver Simmons for FSU, Solomon and Dustin Braddick for Clemson.
