Carolina 30 - Tulsa 9
September 2, 2000

Raleigh _  We could say the Heels had a coming out party.  OK, I'll say it.  They did.  A little shaky at times, but nonetheless all is well with Carolina football.  And Willie Parker is the real deal.

What I noticed most was balance.  Balance throughout the team.  The defense and offense did their jobs.  And the offense had balance with the running and passing game.  Check out the stats here.

30 points is a tribute to Mike O'Cain.  Yes, the team had to execute, but Mike had a most excellent game plan.  And that gave the team a chance to succeed.  415 total yards!  We won't see the "fat back" dive on 3rd and long ever again!  By the way, the line had Carolina by 15.  The Ram Man called it 21 knowing we'd beat the line.

With Ken Browning calling it for the defense, Carl Torbush was able to focus, for the first time as head coach, on the game itself.  I thought the entire coaching staff and team did a great job today.  For a tune-up game, our opponents should take notice.  It's only just begun!

Oh yeah, one of the game highlights was the cruise by Matt Doherty around the field.  He will become a legend at Carolina before it's all said and done.  Mark my word.

Go Heels!
