This says it all...

Game Stats
Chapel Hill _  Roberts first kick-off goes 7 yards deep in the end zone to start the game.  Georgia Tech, 1st and 10 at the 20.  Are the Heels starting off with a bang?

Tech's first play runs up the middle and Carolina gang tackles at the 21.  Next play is a false start, so still 2nd and 14 at the 16.  Tech's 3rd play is a pass and Waddell is 3 steps off his man.  Pass complete to Watkins at the 35 for a 19 yard gain.

Then Suggs fakes a pitch and has plenty of room to run for 6 yards.  On Tech's 5th play, #35 Ajenavi Eziemefe runs left to the outside, breaks 2 tackles and gains 16 yards.

Three plays later, is it a bad pass or bad route?  Suggs throws behind his receiver blowing past Waddell, who was just standing there, but got the interception and returns to the Tech 22 yard line.  Dumb luck?

But failing to move the ball, the Heels settle for a 39 yard field goal to take the lead, 3 - 0.  Carolina fans are feeling cautiously encouraged.

But on the next series, the Heels play defense like a slice of Swiss cheese and Eziemefe, nicknamed Ace, runs through big holes.  Ace is already averaging 6.6 yards per carry, 5 for 33 yards.  Ouch!  Tech moves the ball for 9 minutes off the clock only to miss a field goal.

Yeah, I thought Bobby Blizzard's knee was down, while at the game.  That play was a difference-maker, but one play doesn't normally lose a game.  This game was a comedy of errors.  There's really nothing more to say.

The Heels continue to show promise at times with short spurts of good play.  But lack of focus and way too many mental mistakes have them at 1 - 3 for the season.  If they ever catch on, will it be too little to late.  Maybe John "the Beast" Bunting will have something to say about that.

Bunting said, "During the bye week, we worked awfully hard on the fundamentals and understanding the overall scheme of our defense.  It didn't show up today.  To me, tackling is a mentality.  If what took place today is any reflection of our mentality, then we better get the mentality changed quickly.  Believe me, it will be an interesting week around here on the practice field."

It's painful right now to watch a Carolina game.  It leaves me shaking my head, and hoping like hell the coaches and players get things straightened out.  After this game I left Kenan wondering what we will see next.  If embarrassment is a motivation, there's plenty to go around.  But I hope they get mad and continue to fight for turning this season around.  And soon.

The game next Saturday looks like the last chance to get it right before N.C. State comes to the Hill. Will the Heels surprise us?  We'll have to tune in and listen on the radio.  I won't be able to make the Arizona State game, but will be back in Chapel Hill on October 12th with fingers crossed.  See you at the game in two weeks.

Go Heels!
