Raleigh _  Guess what I found?  Or more accurately, guess what found me.  After being out of the office for a couple of weeks, my first day back turned out to be a very good day.

One of the guys said, "Hey, look what I found in an old box."  Then he showed me this 1949 copy of Pic Quarterly Football magazine.  I couldn't believe it.  So with a huge grin on my face, I begin to browse through it.  He then agreed to let me scan it for this article.  Thanks Rick!

In this era, Street & Smith Publications put out a Pic Quarterly for baseball, horse racing and football.  The football issue covered these areas/conferences:  Mid West, East, Southern, Deep South, Big 7 - Missouri Valley, Rockies, South West, and Pacific Coast.  UNC was in the Southern Conference in those days along with 15 other schools.

The writing style was interesting to read.  And I got a grin reading about Wake Forest College, as it was named in 1949.  Also Tar Heel was written as Tarheel, as hyphenated in Art Weiner's blurp on his picture.

OK, enough with the words already.  This is meant to be a pictorial.  Links are provided for larger pictures for the ones displayed on this page.  Enjoy!
